Comments: I transferred this CD-R set myself over from a 2nd generation video that was given to me by Mike Duchek. The sound on this bootleg is average at best, as it is somewhat muffled throughout the show. U2 put on a great show though, and include a performance of the classic Frank Sinatra song "New York, New York" on the B-stage right after "Angel of Harlem."
Whoever filmed this video stopped recording right after "With or Without You," meaning that "Love is Blindness" did not make it to the video. However, U2 released the live version of "Love is Blindness" from this show on the "Stay (Faraway, So Close!)" single, so it has been added in professional soundboard qulaity to complete the show.
Notice the inclusion of the Mystery Train Dub of "Can't Help Fallin' In Love" at the end. This is a somewhat rare version of this song, and Mike Duchek transferred that song from the "Salome" 12" Vinyl promo record. Because it is from a record, you can hear some pops and clicks in it, but nothing out of the usual. Finally, the version of "One Tree Hill" was taken from The Best of 1980-1990 video release from Tempe, AZ, on December 20th, 1987. Mike thought it would make a nice bonus track.
On a final note, it appears that U2 were impressed with the performance they put on this evening, as most (but not all) of these songs are the versions that made it to the Outside Broadcast bootleg, and the FOX Zoo TV special that aired on television in November of 1992. I have identified the following songs that made each special:
Outside Broadcast Bootleg |
Zoo TV Special |
Until the End of the World |
Zoo Station |
Even Better Than the Real Thing |
Until the End of the World |
Satellite of Love |
When Love Comes to Town |
Where the Streets Have No Name |
Satellite of Love |
|
Where the Streets Have No Name |
|
Desire |
Those are the songs I have identified so far. The jury is still out on "Mysterious Ways," "One," and "Running to Stand Still." I know that "The Fly" from both of those specials was from the Houston, TX show on October 14th, 1992. Finally, for those of you saying "Wait a minute...they didn't show all those songs on the FOX Zoo TV Special!" Well, you are right and wrong. The FOX network watered down that show so it would fit in a 1 hour time slot. Everywhere else in the world aired the entire show, and it included some extra songs. |
